Irish Foreign Minister Warns of Famine in Gaza, Calls for Increased Humanitarian Aid

The Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs has issued a stark warning about the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, describing conditions in the territory as approaching famine.

Hawzah News Agency- She emphasized that the ongoing blockade, coupled with the destruction of infrastructure and shortages of essential supplies, has created an urgent crisis affecting hundreds of thousands of residents, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and patients requiring medical care.

“The situation in Gaza is critical. There is a real risk of famine unless immediate measures are taken to allow the flow of food, water, medicine, and other essential aid,” the minister said in a statement.

She called on the international community to act decisively to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches those in need without delay. This includes expanding access through border crossings, easing bureaucratic restrictions, and protecting aid convoys from attacks or interference.

The minister also urged donor countries, international organizations, and relief agencies to increase funding and logistical support to prevent further deterioration of living conditions in Gaza. She highlighted that sustained humanitarian access is not only a moral imperative but also a legal obligation under international law.

Her remarks come amid mounting reports of acute food shortages, widespread malnutrition, and a severe lack of medical supplies in the Gaza Strip, as the population continues to suffer the effects of prolonged conflict and restricted aid flows.
